This article traces the evolution of and compares three major paradigms for career intervention. Vocational guidance is examined from an objective perspective of individual differences and views clients as actors. Career education is presented from a subjective perspective of individual development and views clients as agents of change. The life design paradigm is also examined from a social constructionist perspective and views clients as authors who design and reflect on life themes.
