APA submits testimony to the National Council on Disability

APA’s Public Interest Government Relations Office, in collaboration with the APA Disability Issue Office, submitted testimony to the National Council on Disability in support of their May 12 hearing on Capitol Hill on disability in the federal budget.  The council is an independent federal agency that advises the President, Congress and other federal agencies about policies affecting individuals with disabilities.  The hearing, the first in the 30-year history of the council, featured testimony from the co-chairs of the congressional Bipartisan Disabilities Caucus, Reps. Jim Langevin (D-RI) and Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-WA), as well as disability advocates and budget experts.

The testimony centered on the psychological benefits of employment to individuals with disabilities and called on Congress and the Administration to maintain funding for programs that support employment.  PI-GRO continues to advocate for critical funding and services for individuals with disabilities.
